Overwhelming generosity from within and outside Cape Cod Community College has raised over $42,000 in response to a recent $100,000 scholarship match challenge by Chatham resident and Accenture CEO William D. (Bill) Green. Support is needed through 2010 to fully match this generous scholarship endowment challenge. Matching funds have quickly poured in after Green announced the challenge gift in September 2009 while on campus accepting an Outstanding Alumnus of the Year award from the American Association of Community Colleges. Gifts came from college faculty, staff, trustees, the College’s Educational Foundation, the business community, and private donors, all targeted at reaching $100,000 in local funds that will equal Bill Green’s gift. He spoke to the business and philanthropic community on December 3,, 2009 at the Chatham Bars Inn, during which major gifts to the challenge campaign were announced.
The scholarship will be earmarked for full-time students studying at the College in the fields of Business, Hospitality, Information Technology, Environmental Technology, and other green jobs of the future. When the $200,000 Accenture Scholarship is fully endowed, it will be the largest endowed scholarship held and managed by the College’s Educational Foundation, and is expected to support two $5,000 annual scholarships per year, roughly equaling the cost of one full-year’s tuition and books at the College.
Green, Chairman and CEO of Accenture, a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company, spoke about the scholarship match last week at “An Evening of Discovery and Philanthropy" held at the Chatham Bars Inn, hosted by the Cape Cod Community College Educational Foundation and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce. He is known nationally as an outspoken advocate for community colleges and their ability to energize the US economy by building local workforces and creating the foundation for lifelong learning.
